The U of L Youth Singers offer singers aged 9-12 a fun and dynamic opportunity to grow as musicians. No audition is required. This group has been successfully meeting and singing online together since the fall of 2020. We will continue to meet online this spring until such time as the Alberta Health Services and the Chief Medical Officer of Alberta deem it safe to meet in person.
Our online model will embrace all of the great things that our in-person Youth Singers always has. We will explore a wide variety of music in unison and 2-3 parts and focus on excellent vocal technique in a way that is fun and non-threatening for all singers.
Meeting online as a choir will also give us time to explore foundational musicianship skills. These will include solfege, music reading and sight singing. We will offer a unique approach to one-on-one feedback on vocal technique without the anxiety of singing in front of the group. In addition to fun team-building opportunities, we will be able to take a fresh approach to exploring repertoire, movement and other activities.
If restrictions are lifted, we will explore meeting in small groups with all social distancing, cleanliness standards and safety guidelines in place.
This choir will be led by Kathy Matkin-Clapton for the 2020-21 season.
